Years ago I went to the work to do the same thing. Put bolts through every knob on a brand new 773 Dunlop. What a mistake!!
Since then I have simply run a Trelleborg winter tire with studs. Pricey but they kast for several seasons so in the long run a better deal and FAR better performance.
